Iowa Workforce Development is a state agency committed to providing employment services for individual job seekers. The IT department of IWD develops and maintains applications that serve our customers. We are looking for a COBOL Developer with experience in working with "legacy" COBOL applications. The individual will be part of a team that works on mission-critical applications using Agile like methodologies. The project is for
enhancement and maintenance of components for IWD's Unemployment Insurance Benefits system.

Responsibilities:
• Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle, including development and all phases of testing (unit, integration, UAT).
• Develop and/or modify COBOL programs while providing expertise from concept and design to testing.
• Write well designed, testable, efficient code.
• Ensure designs are following specifications and best practices.
• Prepare and produce releases of software components.
• Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for architectural review.

Expectations:
• Proven working experience in COBOL development and MVS JCL
• Experience in working with legacy code that has little or no documentation
• Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases and SQL
• Experience in developing and consuming SOAP web services utilizing CICS Web Services and XML
• Experience in working in teams using Agile or Agile like methodologies

• VSAM - (10 years of experience REQUIRED)
• CICS COBOL and BMS - (10 years of experience REQUIRED)
• DB2 SQL (6 years of experience REQUIRED)
• DFSORT or equivalent (6 years of experience REQUIRED)
• TSO/ISPF (6 years of experience REQUIRED)
• IBM MQSeries (4 years of experience HIGHLY DESIRED)
• Unix System Services (1 year experience HIGHLY DESIRED)
• Expeditor (1 year experience HIGHLY DESIRED)
• Experience using Atlassian collaboration tools including JIRA and Confluence.
