COBOL Programmer

Remote

$40-45/hour

80k-90k Full-Time Conversion

12 Month Contract to Hire

As a COBOL Programmer, you will be responsible for supporting the Pharmaceutical Benefit Management (PBM) software engineering organization of a Fortune 13 health insurance enterprise. You will be working along side a team of other programmers, developers and quality assurance testers in order to convert their Computer Associate platform to IBM. This team works on the Integrated Drug Files application, which is handled on Mainframe, and will heavily use COBOL II, DB2 and CICS in their day-to-day. This team is responsible for a critical business requirement and works in a fast paced environment to move drug information to the Entity team for distribution of medications. This is a great opportunity for growth in a Fortune 13 environment, while learning cloud implementation and new technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2-3+ years of enterprise experience in software engineering/development
  • Strong experience/utilization of COBOL II, DB2 and CICS

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experienced in SQL databases, VSAM, OS/MVS-ESA, JCL and Utilities
  • Experienced in TSO/ISPF, Intertest, Xpediter, CEDF, DECI, SPUFI
  • Knowledge of EZtrieve, Endevor, File Aid
  • Willingness to adapt quickly on this team in order to make immediate, independent impacts
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders and team members to problem solve

Responsibilities:

  • Convert a Computer Associates program on the Mainframe to IBM
  • Manage and design software in order to protect and store high profile clients' health/medical/personal data
  • Maintain daily/weekly/monthly monitorizations with automated batch processes
  • Support the transportation of data to another application responsible for pharmacy distribution
  • Communicate with internal/external stakeholders to optimize business production and create a seamless experience
