job summary: Our client- a top leading automotive parts supplier- is looking for an AS400 Cobol Programmer in Fountain Valley, CA. This is a contract to hire role, 2 days onsite (flexible), 3 days work from home. You will be supporting development of user applications, bug fixes, modification/enhancements to existing functions, testing, system documentation, and ad-hoc data gathering/queries.location: FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California job type: Contract salary: $47.00 - 64.59 per hour work hours: 8am to 4pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: JOB PURPOSE The programmers are responsible for direct support of our internal Operating System, including internal functionality and interfaces with any external systems. Support includes development of user applications, bug fixes, modification/enhancements to existing functions, testing, system documentation, and ad-hoc data gathering/queries. Programmers support our Corporate users, our Parts Distribution Centers, MRC, and other Subsidiaries. Support may require coordination with the systems team at HQ. Support hours may extend beyond normal business hours at Corporate offices in order to support users in different time zones and countries or coordinate with staff in Korea. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES - Develop design specifications based on business user requirements - Program development - Testing of new/modified programs - Troubleshoot system problems - Ad hoc data gathering/queries KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS - Develop design specifications - Program development - Create test plans, test cases and perform unit, integration and parallel testing of all processes. - Coordinate testing with client and verify accuracy of test results - Perform quality control of programs and system changes prior to implementation - Prepare and promote approved program changes to production. - Diagnose and troubleshoot daily operations, programs and system problems. - Operation program & logic research and documentation. - Provide support to operational staff for error resolution - The programmer is expected to operate within the policies and procedures established and adhere to generally accepted business practices. Based on requirements defined by the business users and Systems Analysts the programmer is expected to independently develop new/modified programs to support the business need. The programmer is expected to be sufficiently experienced with existing system functionality to identify any potential constraints/conflicts. - The programmer is required to independently research any systems issues/errors reported by users, recommend solutions, and promptly resolve to minimize any negative impact on daily functions, productivity, or service to customers.
